About Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon

Our organisation plays a vital role in providing essential support to young children and their families during the challenging journey of parenthood.

Charlotte is Mum to 3 children and was struggling to cope with her with depression. Home-Start Volunteer, Mark, helped her and her family through a difficult time. Charlotte wrote of Mark’s support: “I cannot thank Mark enough. Through rubbish mental health and not being the best, he’s always understood, always listened, and always managed to make the clouds seem less heavy. Mark became more than a volunteer, he was adored by my children. Mark will never understand the amount of support he’s given me, and he doesn’t realise how wonderful he is!”

Sam is Mum to 3 young boys. Tragically, her fourth child, a baby daughter, died. Sam said: “Having Mark help out with my boys and supporting me with my late daughter, visiting her grave, meant so much to me. The support Mark gave to me and the boys was invaluable.”

Mark is one of our many volunteers, and although they will never admit it, they are all wonderful people and all care deeply about helping families who are struggling.

Becoming a parent is a joyful time, but it can also be overwhelming, especially when unexpected things happen or you have additional challenges like depression and bereavement or simply no-one to help out or turn to. At HSEEMD, we understand these struggles, and that's why we're committed to making a positive difference.
